Filming a music video in California was an amazing experience for myself and my then best friend Jeen. I had just finished recording the song “set check” with Shock G in Orlando. The studio was at the home of Murdoc, an expert engineer. You might remember him as a contestant on the the World Famous Wake up Show’s 100 K battle hosted by Sway about 12 years ago.

Murdoc battled against other hip hop mc’s for a chance to win $100,000 and came out the victor. Murdoc was a very professional, humble individual. He was actually neighbors to my then soon to be roommate Psycos girlfriends house, small world. A dope album was released in 2019 called “DESTRUCTION THEORY” by Juan Pierre, Hidden Hand & Murdoc.

Before Shock G and I arrived at the studio he wanted to stop at the liquor shop. Shock G grabbed a bottle of crown royal and said “now you do you because I’m definitely doing me!” with a smile. He was really excited for the studio session and so was I. I grabbed a bottle of liquor for myself and we headed to the studio.

We filled Murdocs studio with weed smoke and we joked around, Shock G was really funny. We had so much fun. Shock G wrote his part and he even let me tighten up his verse for him a bit. I put my verse down on paper and it didn’t take long for us to record the song. Murdoc was just as good at engineering as he was an MC. I asked Murdoc, “what do I owe you for the studio time?” and he said “Well, I am mixing the track and everything is included.” Then he smiled and said “$50.” “Now, that’s a deal!” I said.

After the recording Jeen and I would fly out to Los Angeles to record the video with Shock G. We chose various urban areas of the city to film and also at a car show. The representatives of the mintruck clubs we wrote the song for were all there. We were putting my business plan to work. Blending hip hop and the mini trucks scene. Shock G was very excited. I went to his house and met his roommate, an older but tall and sexy caucasion brunette.

Another woman was with them a blonde, also thin, tall, and sexy. I walked in at the entrance were stairs that led down to the main lobby of the home. There were pictures of musicians and gold record plaques all along the walls, the decor was quite magnificent to take in.

I saw the brunette I would say less than a year ago here in NYC on Clinton st. and East Broadway. Of course after so much time, I didn’t recognize her. She was trying to get my attention from across the street. She lifted up her sun glasses and grit her pearly white teeth. I just thought to myself that lady has great hygiene. Her face was tanned and she smiled but she looked frustrated.

A proper reintroduction would have been appropriate. I didn’t know who she was at the time, I just thought who is this crazy lady following me and I kept walking.

I was attempting to create a fanbase leading up to the day we were filming. I was on the hunt for local models. I exchanged numbers and took pictures with many random ladies I saw that I thought had potential to be video vixens. Jeen heavily criticized me, saying that it was unprofessional.

Jeen aka DJ Byos was in the midst of a new romance and spent the entire trip on the phone talking to her, needless to say I thought it was lame. Everybody knows the music video “I GET AROUND” by 2pac featuring Digital Underground was a smash hit. I am pretty sure no body said 2pac was being unprofessional. I ignored him and continued my efforts but I did not invite any of the ladies to take part in the music video. Jeen’s romance however did lead to marriage so I am glad it worked out for him.

My half sister who also called Jeen throughout the trip was another distraction. It was baby mama drama to say the least.

The night of the concert hosted by the radio station Kday came and on the way to the concert I continued my efforts of building a fanbase. “Put on the shades their dope” said Jeen. I said “what about the Gucci glasses?” “ This is the west coast wear the Locs shades.” Jeen lived in California for some time, he moved there to be with my sister before we met. When I was 21 years old my father introduced me to my half sister from Cali, I never knew about her. I met Jeen, and my nephews the same day. We had an instant connection.

I trusted Jeens judgment so I wore the shades and they looked good with my Yankee blue baseball cap. I had on a mechanics outfit to go with our mini truck theme, I believe it was a dickies brand uniform. My outfit was navy blue and he had the same outfit but in the color black. Jeen wore a black or grey Dodgers baseball cap as far as I can remember.

I spoke to this girl who was part Mexican with black straight hair. Her brown eyes had a sparkle to them as she gazed at me. I quickly introduced myself. Her friend started walking toward the back entrance of where the concert was being held. “Wait” she said to her friend as she tugged on her shirt and then she sat down on a structure. “Where are you from?” she asked a little bit shy like in her tone. “I’m from New York, I’m recording a music video tomorrow with Shock G!” Her smile seemed to grow even bigger.

I thought she was very pretty, but she did look a little bit young. I said to her “do you want to take a picture with me, mami linda?” and she said “yes!” We took the picture and I gave her my information to find me online. “Be on the lookout for the video” I said to her then I headed toward the back entrance. She was smiling from ear to ear and what a smile she had. “Ok, I will!” she said back to me as I hurried to catch up with Jeen who had continued walking and talking on the phone with his girlfriend.

We entered the back stage entrance and it was packed. Their was long black curtains draped everywhere, we were right next to the stage. Shock G greeted me and then he disappeared to prepare for his performance. There was a lot of guys around Jeen and I. A large group of men and woman started posing to take pictures. A shorter guy with dark sunglasses was standing next to me.

I looked at him for a few seconds, then I realized it was Tone Loc. I said “oh shii, your Tone Loc!” He started laughing gave me dap (an urban handshake) and said in his deep rugged voice “hey what’s up?” Jeen was so excited.

A woman in the group that was taking pictures gestured for me to get in the pictures with them. Jeen excitedly said “take the picture take the picture!” I got in the picture and there was a flurry of flashes from the cameras of the photographers taking pictures. I might have been the only light skin latino to take picture’s with them. Years later I saw the photos altered with additional men posing who were not originally in the picture, clearly photoshopped. About 20 seconds later a group of men who I had met earlier that evening at Shock G’s hotel room escorted me and Jeen to the stage.

Money B was out there, I had met him earlier that night at the hotel room. I drank with him and joked around. Jeen and I were having so much fun. I saw them perform up close and personal. Their stage presence was impeccable. The crowd was going absolutely crazy. These were professional hip hop legends who performed to the highest standards. They had a following in the crowd, I saw many men with Humpty Hump rubber noses on. They called them “The noses.”

Then Shock G turned around and waved his arm to me. The stage covered a very large surface that took up a lot of square footage. I started walking toward him and the white stage lights high above blinded me. My gold chain I wore was shining so bright in the light. I quickly lifted my arm, the crowd was so loud, loudest I have ever heard. What an honor it was to be called out by a hip hop legend.

A few months later I would start the job at the insurance company. Jazz introduced me right away to a man named Brandon. He was a tall black man who held a high position. He had a girlfriend who was super hot named Maxie. I used to see her follow him around all the time. She was a supervisor in the 2nd floor which is where he worked as well. I was on the 1st floor so I had different supervisors . Jazz would later tell me he received her referral bonus when I got hired. I thought to myself that is probably why I was hired so quickly.

The girl that I met before the show is now an online streamer. It took me some time to recognize her. She now has tattoos that she didn’t have when I met her. Her sex appeal is on fleek and she is a pretty tough cookie. The shape of her lips make her even more so desirable and her eyes are so alluring. She goes by the name South Centrals Baddest, a real “Wild Thing” like the song from Tone Loc.
